(Des Moines, Iowa) October 15, 2012— Iowa food and wine lovers gave further evidence as to why the Moscato category is one of the fastest growing in the United States. The sparkling white Ruffino Moscato d’Asti was voted the “People’s Choice White” winner at the annual Dine Iowa Grand Tasting Gala. More than 300 people cast their vote in the competition at the Prairie Meadows Event Center, which was held in conjunction with the Iowa Restaurant Association’s annual awards event and culinary competition.
“Moscato is growing in popularity, particularly with wine drinkers age 22 to 35,” said Jessica Dunker, president and CEO of the Iowa Restaurant Association. “I think the sweet taste of Moscato and the ease with which it can be paired with everything from desserts to spicy Asian food, makes it a particularly attractive choice for Iowa wine drinkers.”
Added Dunker, “And obviously people love the taste.”
Low Alcohol Sparkling White
Ruffino Moscato d’Asti is an Italian wine with a pleasantly sweet and fragrant flavor hinting of peach and orange blossoms. It is a low alcohol white characterized by light, effervescent bubbles and a sweet white fruit finish. “I imagine this reasonably priced sparkling white will land on more restaurant wine lists across the state,” concluded Dunker.
The People’s Choice tasting was sponsored by Constellation Wines and Johnson Brothers of Iowa.
