Trostel's Summy Honored as 2007
Iowa Restaurant Association Champion

Des Moines, Iowa (November 27, 2007) – Suzanne Summy, general manager of Trostel’s Dish in Clive, Trostel’s Greenbriar in Johnston and Chips in Ankeny was recently recognized by the Iowa Restaurant Association (IRA) as an Association “Champion.” This designation is periodically awarded to members in recognition of significant work toward, and dedication to, the advancement of Iowa’s restaurant and retail beverage industry. The presentation was made at the IRA’s annual Celebrating Excellence Gala at The Meadows Event Center in Altoona.

Summy, who has spent the majority of career in the hospitality industry, has been an active and highly visible advocate for the industry for years. She has worked tirelessly on issues that impact all Iowa restaurant and bar operators at both the state and national level. Each year, she represents Iowa’s hospitality industry as a member of the state delegation to the National Restaurant Association Public Affairs Conference in Washington D.C. She also helps rally members to action on state legislative issues.

Summy has headed the education and membership committees as part of her service to the IRA Board of Directors. In those positions, she helped oversee the development and promotion of food safety education and cost savings programs for restaurant operators. She is slated to become Chairman of the IRA Board of Directors in 2009.

“Suzanne Summy is quick to pick up the phone and call a fellow restaurateur or a purveyor and solicit support or encourage action on industry issues,” said Doni DeNucci, president and CEO of the IRA, in making the award. “In short, she is a champion for the Association, a champion for the industry and quite frankly a champion for every restaurant and bar operator in the state of Iowa.”

Rivera is a principal of Rubicon Enterprises LLC, a restaurant operations and development company based in Sarasota, Florida.
